🏡 House of the Fire Chief / Ruiskumestarin talo opens for the summer season on 2 May. The museum will be open (https://ruiskumestarintalo.fi/nayttelyt/ruiskumestarin-koti/) until 27 September. 📖 A bit of the building's history. The House of the Fire Chief is the oldest wooden building in Helsinki, built in 1816 by Major General Yevgraf Fedorovich Durnovo, a naval artillery officer who served in the Viipuri (Vyborg) fortress. Fire chief Alexander Wikhölm bought the house in 1859 and lived there with his wife Erika and their three children. The museum interiors are restored based on information about the fire chief's family's way of life, hence the name Ruiskumestarin talo.
