Today, May 13 (Wednesday) at 21:00 PREMIERE! "Butterflies of Georgia" — a lecture by Valeriy Petrov. The lecture is timed to the release of the first issue of the postcard set "Butterflies of Georgia. Daytime and Rare". They can be purchased in Tbilisi at "Auditoria booksbar", or ordered by mail: arhe.msk@gmail.com Georgia is a unique crossroads of natural zones at the junction of Europe and Asia. European and Asian species meet here, forming an exceptionally rich fauna. The country's territory covers all elevation belts — from semi-deserts to alpine zones, and this is reflected in the butterflies themselves: the same species changes depending on altitude — in the mountains it becomes smaller, in the lowlands larger and brighter. The butterfly fauna of the Transcaucasus numbers about 4000 species, of which about 300 are diurnal. Lecturer: Valeriy Petrov — a specialist in butterflies, an employee of the National Museum of Georgia and the Silk Museum, an artist. His biologically accurate watercolor illustrations are included in this set.
