The second stage of treating Novi Sad's green areas and surroundings against ticks has begun. Treatments will be carried out (https://www.021.rs/novi-sad/vesti/441247/poceo-drugi-krug-tretmana-protiv-krpelja-na-svim-uredjenim-zelenim-povrsinama-u-novom-sadu-i-okolini) daily until the May holidays. Effectiveness checks may lead to repeat treatments as necessary. This year treatments will continue into the autumn because the share of ticks carrying borreliosis (Lyme disease) is increasing year by year. Lyme disease is an infectious illness caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi and transmitted by infected Ixodes ticks. Symptoms — including a red rash, flu-like signs, joint pain and fatigue — can appear several weeks after a tick bite. A reliable sign you were bitten by such a tick is a red ring-shaped spot near the bite. It does not appear immediately and is a signal to urgently see a doctor for antibiotics. They are given in high doses and for a long time because these bacteria are tenacious and hard to treat. There is currently no vaccine against borreliosis. If you want to learn more about borreliosis (Lyme disease), you can read the article (https://www.jugolab.rs/mikrobiologija/lajmska-bolest) by Novi Sad infectious disease professor Jovan Vukadinov. He has treated borreliosis in the city for decades; you can contact him (search online for where he consults — Jovan Vukadinov). Do not forget to protect dogs — a tick bite can be fatal for them. In our dog owners' chat (https://t.me/dogsns) they will advise on veterinary clinics and protection methods. #proticks
