The night from Apr 30 to May 1 in northern and central Europe is called Walpurgis Night; among Serbs it is called "uranak." Uranak is a dawn gathering. The pagan custom before May Day consists of singing and dancing with your group until morning around a small fire, so that in the morning you can prepare kotlic (a meat stew in a cauldron) and svinsko pečenje (or other food on the roštilj). Many people start May Day on the eve. Outside the city people prepare the spot by cutting and tamping down the grass and fencing an area for their groups. The night will be hot and loud. In Serbia International Workers' Day is widely celebrated as the first day of spring. Protests for workers' rights also occur, but often as a prelude to the main meal cooked over open fire. If someone cannot cook over a fire, they will go early to a pecenjara and order a kilogram or two of spit-roasted meat. Near the town of Čačak there is even a whole "pig route" — a street where pigs are roasted. To buy a couple of kilos of spit-roasted pig: search Google Maps for pecenjara Novi Sad and order meat there, or order by phone. ▶️Places where you can grill yourself: (https://fruskac.net/rs/lokacije/izletista) ▶️Map of Fruška Gora: (https://fruskac.net/rs/mapa) #mayday
